When it comes to getting the perfect stance on your classic Chevy or GMC truck, wheel fitment can make or break the look. At TorqThrusts.com, we specialize in fitments for C10, Squarebody, and OBS trucks, and we’re breaking down what works — and what needs a little extra attention.
🔧 Common Fitment: C10 & Squarebody Trucks
For most C10 builds, the go-to staggered setup is:
-
Front: 20x8 - 20x8.5
-
Rear: 20x9.5 - 20x10.5
- NOTE: We also offer plenty of 22" options as well.
This setup fits well on most stock to lowered trucks. The narrower front track width allows room for a 245 width tires, or similar tire without rubbing — especially with 4.5–5 inches of backspacing.
C10 & Squarebody trucks have slightly different tolerances in front.
-
C10: 245/40 OR 245/45 front tires on lowered applications
-
Squarebody: 245/45 on slight drop but 245/40s on any drop 3/5 or more.
-
Roll fender lips for extra clearance
🔧 Fitment Differences: OBS Trucks (1988–1998)
Here’s where many get tripped up — OBS trucks have a slightly wider front track width than earlier models but less outer fender clearance.
That means if you run a 20x8 front wheel and your truck is lowered 3/5 or more, running anything taller than a 35-series front tire (like 245/40R20) may result in rubbing on the fender lips, especially during turns or with compressed suspension.
🚨 Pro Tip:
If you want to run a taller tire or a more aggressive stance on an OBS:
-
Consider mild front fender trimming
-
Avoid tires taller than 27.5"–28" in the front if lowered UNLESS you plan on trimming or rolling the fender lips on front fenders.
-
Stick with 4.50"–5.25" backspacing on front wheels

I have a 1998 c1500 that I have lowered 4" in the front with 2" drop spindles and 2" lowering springs. The rear is lowered 6" with a flip kit and lowering shocks. I need to know what backspacing I need to run on the front and the back. I want to run 20×8.5 on the front and 20×10 on the rear —-thanks for your help

It seems that 15in wheeles have less choices to pick from for truck tires. I’m thinking changing to 17in wheel’s will give me more options, and still look good on my 1984 C -10 long bed.
I have a 1976 Chevy C10 with a 4-6 drop. Looking for staggered setup. possibly 18s in front and 20s in rear, or 20s all around. I dont really want to go bigger than 20s. Thanks
i have a 74 square body short bed, 2.5/4 drop, cannot decide on wheel sizing, do not want a 20 due to the road conditions in my town, was looking at maybe a 17" but tire sizes are limited, what are your recommendations, any help is appreciated
